George Lucas: "You seem to be a bitter person. You have a caustic attitude toward film making. Making films is a form of art. The artist is the ultimate judge of how the work of art should be created, altered and modified. You want a totalitarian way of doing things where I have no rights over my film works. According to you, once a film is released in theatres it can never be altered even if the changes will greatly improve the films. When we made the old trilogy, we didn’t have enough resources and technology to capture the films as I had them in my mind. This bothered me greatly. My imagination was several decades ahead of the available special-effects technology of the late 1970's and early 1980's. I don’t fault you for being a failure at life. You’re doing your best. However, I believe it is wrong to take out your personal frustrations on Star Wars. Life didn’t turn out the way you wanted it to. All you have to cling to is the memories of a film serial known as Star Wars. You live in the fantasy of your childhood because the present day is so painful. You can’t afford a car or a decent place to live. Women avoid you like the plague. I feel for you deeply. I would like to reach out and make your life better, but I can’t. You need to accept the reality of your situation and move on. It should be noted that the original versions of the old films you have on VHS tape will one day be inoperable from wear and tear. You will then have to buy my true vision of the films on DVD. I always win in the end." |
